Security is something we desperately need, and it is something God deeply desires to give us. Searching for security in our job, appearance, marriage or dating will only leave us full of constant fear and envy of others’ success. This study begins to explore how we can find security in God no matter where we are or what is happening in our lives.

Only God makes us feel free

God is the only one who can make us feel free from fear and anxiety. He also wants to keep us secure, which means he wants to hear about the things that make us the most insecure.
I often try to feel secure based on how nice my house is, how much money I make, how I am dressed, and how much people like me. Unfortunately, all these things are only temporary. They leave me insecure and constantly envying others’ success.
God also deeply desires for us to give us security. I think it makes him sad when we are plagued and imprisoned by fear.
  • Where do most often try to find security?
  • Do you believe God desires for you to feel secure?
  • Is your home a secure place? Do you feel relaxed and free from anxiety at home? Why or why not?

Integrity will always keep us secure.

They will always be secure. Those who do what is right will be remembered forever.
Psalm 112:6
Recently I attended a special party in honor of a friend of mine. While I was happy for my friend, I soon found insecurity creeping into my mind:
  • Why wasn’t I more involved in planning the party?
  • Are the other girls closer to her than I am?
  • Maybe I’m just not that great of a friend …
… and before I knew it I was on a spiral of self-pity that threatened to take away the joy of the party. I don’t know about you, but I don’t want to live that way at every party.
I felt empowered when I realized that I actually felt guilty for not doing the good I knew I ought to do. My lack of integrity made me feel insecure. I saw girls at the party being genuinely good friends to the girl they were honoring, and it bothered me because I knew deep down I could have been a better friend all along the way. Acknowledging that guilt freed me up to start becoming that kind of friend.
